How to Celebrate My Name's Day

Just like we celebrate our birthdays every year, as Orthodox Christians we should also celebrate our name's day - the feast day of our Patron Saint.

On our name's day, we should all make our best efforts to visit the Church and celebrate the Divine Liturgy. We may even ask our parents to offer bread to the Church to be blessed and given to the faithful.

If there is no service on at the Church, we can celebrate in the following ways:

  1. We can ask our parents to help us light a candle in front of our prayer corner. After praying our morning and evening prayers, we should ask our Patron Saint to intercede for us: 'O Saint of God (name of Saint) pray to God for my salvation.'
  1. We can ask our priest or parish choir leader for the troparion (short chant) of our Patron Saint and chant it at home.
  1. We can even cut a cake and celebrate with our loved ones, just like we do on our birthdays.
